What if I am not able to obtain the energy data from all tenants in my covered building?
As a building owner or representative, you are responsible for reporting energy use for the whole building, including tenant spaces and common areas.
BC Hydro tenant-managed accounts
BC Hydro has the ability to aggregate Electricity usage data for:
- Commercial buildings with three or more commercial accounts
- Multi-unit residential buildings with five or more residential accounts
- Mixed-use buildings that have three or more commercial accounts and five or more residential accounts
If your building meets BC Hydro’s required tenant account thresholds, please review our article in Part 1 of the Knowledge Base for instructions on how to obtain aggregated tenant data (Knowledge Base Article).
If your building does not meet BC Hydro’s required threshold for data aggregation, there are two options available to establish the data exchange for each tenant meter:
- Option 1: ask each individual tenant (BC Hydro account holder) at the building to sign off on BC Hydro's third party data authorization form (BC Hydro Form)
- Option 2: ask each individual tenant (BC Hydro account holder) at the building to provide you with a copy of their most recent bill, and follow the instructions outlined in the Knowledge Base article "How to add energy data automatically".
FortisBC tenant-managed accounts
If your building has multiple gas meters with FortisBC under tenant management, you will need to contact each of your tenants asking them to export 24 months of data from their FortisBC online account. Once the tenants have shared their FortisBC export spreadsheets, please follow the instructions in Knowledge Base Article 3.1.2 to manually aggregate the tenant Gas data into CRD’s template, then upload the template into ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.
If you are encountering difficulties with obtaining the requested information from your tenants, please Submit a Ticket to the Help Desk, select 'Request a 60-day extension for benchmarking' and upload a file to the ticket form documenting your attempt(s) to contact the tenant and/or the utility provider.
For more information and to contact the Help Desk, Submit a Ticket and select 'Ask a question'.
