How is my building energy data used?

The CRD is committed to protecting your privacy. Any personal information provided is collected by the CRD under the authority of sections 26(c) and 26(e) of the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FOIPPA). This information is being collected for the purpose of providing Energy and Emission reporting services to eligible building owners and/or their delegates in the capital region, and to support energy efficiency and emission reductions in large buildings in the region.

The CRD Building Benchmarking Program has partnered with OPEN Technologies, a Vancouver-based technology company specializing in data tools to support pro-climate decisions. OPEN Technologies is SOC 2 certified, ensuring that building data is securely stored on Canadian servers. Building information may be aggregated and anonymized for analytical purposes, and these analytics will not contain any information that could identify individuals.
