How do I collect whole-building energy data for buildings with multiple tenants?

CRD Building Benchmarking Program participants should submit whole-building energy use data to the program, including tenant spaces and common areas.

Tenant-Managed BC Hydro Accounts


BC Hydro has the ability to aggregate tenant energy data for buildings that meet the following thresholds:
  1. Commercial buildings with three or more commercial accounts
  2. Multi-unit residential buildings with five or more residential accounts

Please review our Knowledge Base article Link to “Data Aggregation for Buildings With Multiple Tenants“ (Article Link) for instructions on how to request aggregated data from BC Hydro.

If your building does not meet the thresholds listed above, please contact each tenant to request one copy of their latest BC Hydro bill, then follow the instructions in our Knowledge Base article Link to “How to add energy data automatically“ (Article Link) to set up a data exchange in ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager.

FortisBC: At this time, FortisBC does not provide whole-building data aggregation for multi-metered buildings. Please contact your Account Manager at FortisBC for questions about gas data aggregation. If you do not have an Account Manager, please contact FortisBC at commercial.energy@fortisbc.com

If each of the building’s tenants can provide a copy of their latest FortisBC gas bill, you can set up the utilities sync to ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager by following the instructions in FortisBC’s multi-meter sharing guide, which can be downloaded as an attachment (Download FortisBC PDF Guide).
