Key information needed about your building
To get started with the CRD Building Benchmarking Program you will need the following information about your building:
- Property name and address
- Capital Regional District - CRD Benchmarking Building ID (found on the Covered Buildings List)
- 12 consecutive months of whole-building energy data, including electricity, natural gas, renewable natural gas (if applicable, with renewable natural gas (RNG) %), propane, etc.
- Number and type of energy meters, including energy meters managed directly by tenant(s)
- Total Gross Floor Area (sq. metres.) of each building (included on the Covered Buildings List)
- Property use(s)
- Year Built
- Occupancy (exact or estimate %)
- Number of Buildings
- Note: this number is typically “1” unless your building(s) have been approved to benchmark as a Campus by the CRD team
The Capital Regional District covered buildings list will display your building’s Gross Floor Area (in square metres) and the Gross Floor Area that you enter into ENERGY STAR Portfolio Manager should match this value. If you believe there is a large discrepancy (greater than 15%) between your records and the CRD Covered Buildings List, please contact the Help Desk (
Website Link). You will be asked to provide documentation to confirm the Gross Floor Area you have on record. This documentation could include building floor plans, architectural drawings, engineering reports, or insurance documents.
